The latest version of YellowDog supports IBM Cell Broadband Engine and provides a RHEL like atmosphere for the PS3. YellowDog v 6.1 for Power architecture was used in this particular installation. Other distributions may be used but may require kernel recompilation due to the PS3's limited memory.

The Linux partition on the PS3 can be compressed to an image and used on other nodes of the PS3 cluster. To create the image, first download a Linux Live CD for Power (Debian Live was used in this instance, you can find the ISO here: ). Reboot the system and open up a terminal once the Live CD has finished loading. Mount an external drive which is connected via USB, or use a network mount for storing the image.
